Special Birthday present for Katrin

Katrin's birthday is getting closer and we wanted to make something special for her. Something which will remind her about Finland and our family.
So we decided to draw a pillow case and here's the final result.

Good God.

Ajoimme autolla kun korvaani kantautui takapenkiltä lasten keskustelua.

"Kato Sofia kuinka hienoja taloja Jumala on luonut" -Oliver sanoi.

"Ei-ei-ei se niin mee, annas kun sisko selittää tän sulle. Katsos kun Jumala on luonut ne ii-ii-iihmiset ja niille sen taaa-aa-aaaidon joilla ne osasi rakentaa ne talot." -Sofia oikaisi.

"aijaa" pieni mies ihmetteli.

Eihän siinä voinu muuta kuin hymyillä :) Sofialla alkanut uskonnontunnit koulussa, hyvin on opit menneet jakeluun :)

We were driving in the car when I heard this conversation from the back seat.

"Look at those great big buildings which God had created" -Oliver said.

"Noo-noo-noo. Let big sister explain this to you. See, God has created humans and the skill to build things so that humans could build the buildings" -Sofia said proudly

"Ahaa."  and the little man kept wondering the big questions in his small head. 

I just love to listen their serious conversations :)  Sofia has started her religious -classes at school and you obviously the homeworks has been done :)

I'm back!

Täällä ollaan taas. Ison muistitilan ostaneena  -ja köyhtyneenä-  olen takaisin raapustelemassa Sofian taivalta.
On elämä pikku tytöllä muuttunut paljon. Koulutaival alkoi! Se pitkä koulutie. On uusia kavereita, uusi aupair perheessämme, ensimmäinen etuhammaskin lähtenyt, on opittu lukemaan kunnolla ja kiukuttelemaan isojen tyttöjen lailla. Niistä tarkemmin myöhemmin. Tästä se taas lähtee.

I'm back! So many things have happened since my last update. Big milestones. School started, first front teeth was pulled out, we have now a new au pair, Sofia has new friends and has learned to act like a brat! All the small details coming soon. Here we go again...

-Ai siis semmonen TOOSI iso, niinku semmonen joka menee ulkomaille, semmonen... Finnair- laiva ?

-Tarkoitat varmaan SiljaLine laivaa? Finnair on kulta lentokone.

-Sofia: "hupsis"

I told Sofia that her Godparents will be taking her sailing. She was SO exited about it. Then she asked:

-Hmmm, is it a rowing boat?

-No darling, it's much bigger boat.

-Ooh...like one of those....Finnair- boats that goes overseas.

-Do you mean now the Silja Line- cruise ship?

-Yes.

-Sweetheart Finnair is a aeroplane.

-Oooo, "uuups"

3 euron juhlamekko

Äiti on innostunut käymään kirpputoreilla kun huomasin, että sieltä löytää aivan uskomattomia löytöjä. Ennenvanhaan (se kuuluisa "silloin kun minä olin nuori...":)) ihmiset myi vanhoja rääsyjään. Nykyään on asiat aivan toisin, johtuen varmaan siitä kun kaikilla on niin paljon kaikkea ettei kaappeihin lisää mahdu. Synttärilahjoja jms päätyy suoraan kirppiksille, suuressa osassa vielä hintalaput tms kiinnitettyinä. 

Uskomattomia löytöjä olen tehnyt ja viimesin löytö oli ihana juhlamekko Sofialle. Miltein upouusi, ei kylläkään mitään käytön merkkejä ja hintanakin vain 3 euroa. Tottakai olen ylpeänä mainostanut kaikille tätä löytöäni.

Sofian kevätjuhlat olivat lähestymässä ja Sofia mietiskeli, että mitä se laittais juhliin päälle ja keskellä kauppaa, suuren ihmisjoukon keskellä sitten likka tokaisi kovaan ääneen, että:

"Äiti, saanx mä laittaa kevätjuhliin sen mekon jonka sä ostit kirpputorilta 3 eurolla?"

ja äitiä hiukka hävetti...mutta kyllä huvitti!

I've been so surprised what kind of treasure boxes flea markets really are. So many great new things can be found there. People have so much of everything these days that they need to get rid of or sell the goods as they don't fit into their cabinets any more. 

My latest flea market find was this beautiful purple princess dress which looks like a brand new dress. The price was only 3 euros and I was so happy about my finding that I kept telling about it to my friends, family ect.

It did bite me in the ass though. Sofia was thinking of her upcoming spring graduation and what she would be wearing. We were of course in a very public place, in the shop where lots of people were surrounded by us when Sofia said very loudly and exited:

"Mum, can I wear in my graduation fest that beautiful party dress which you bought from the flea market only with 3 euros?"

....OMG, I was so embarrassed! This keeps me smiling for a long time!

Sofia löysi pikkuhousu suoja- paketin ja oli ihmeissään. 

"Äiti, mikä tää on?" 

"Ne on pikkuhousunsuojia"

"Mitä ne on?"

"Aikuiset niitä joskus tarvitsee..."

"Ai niinku jos sun tekis mieli vaikka pissata  housuun?"

Oli hampaidenpesun aika. Sofia ja Oliver istuivat vessan penkillä hammasharjat kädessään ku Sofia tokaisi, että

"ja hampaiden pesuohjeet löydät osoitteesta www.fi"   :D

Armageddon

Isomummi oli meillä yötä. Aamulla lähtisin viemään isomummia taasen takaisin kotiin ja Sofia tiesi sen. Niillä oli jokin lautapeli kesken. Sofia sanoi sitten jotakin HIUKAN väärin. Sofian oli tarkoituksena siis mainita, että haluaa isomummin kanssa vielä pelata ennenkun isomummi menee takaisin kotiinsa. Sofia kuitenkin tokaisi, että  

"Äiti, mä haluan jatkaa tätä peliä vielä, koska mä haluun viettää nää isomummin viimeset päivät sen kaa ennen ku se lähtee pois" :D

Toivottavasti kuitenkin isomummilla on vielä lukuisia elinpäiviä jäljellä.

Sofia was playing some board game with her "isomummi" (great grandmum) and she knew that I'll be taking isomummi back to home soon. Sofia wanted to say something like "Mum, I want to still play little longer with isomummi before she is returning back home" but she said instead this: 

"Mum, I want to play with isomummi for her remaining days"  :D  

'Let's hope lots of healthy days for isomummi though!  

Easter Tiger! ? :D

Palmusunnuntai lähestyi ja Sofia ilmoitti haluavansa virpomaan.

Sofia halusi olla pääsiäispupu. Meillä olikin valmiina kiva pupusetti. Ostin sitten Oliverille tiikerin korvat ja hännän jotta Oliver voisi sitten olla tiikeri kun Sofia on kerran pääsiäispupu. Tuolloin en kuitenkaan muistanut, että Oliver ei tulisi virpomaan ollenkaan sillä Oliver menisi Mummulaan yökylään. 

Kuitenkin tiikerinkorvat aiheutti semmoisen härdellin, että huh huh. Koko ilta taisteltiin niin tiikerin korvista, kaularusetista kuin hännästäkin. Ei halunnut Sofia ollakaan enää pääsiäispupu vaan halusi sittenkin olla tiikeri. Kiistely tiikeri asusta kävi kuumana yömyöhään asti ja jos olisi Tiimari ollut klo 24 asti auki niin äiti ois kyllä ajanut sinne ostamaan uuden setin! ***rkele!

Kamalan taistelun jälkeen lopputuloksena oli kaksi nyyhkyttävää, väsynyttä lapsukaista sängyissään ja toinen nukahti tiikerin korvat päässään ja toinen nukahti haliessaan tiikerin häntää. Niin ja äiti oli heti aamulla klo 9.00 Tiimarin auetessa hakemassa uuden tiikeri- asusetin. Hohhoijaa!

Palmusunnuntaina edeltävänä päivänä käytiin sitten hakemassa kasa pajun oksia ja koristeltiin niitä. Katrinkin pääsi koristelemaan oksia, ensimmäistä kertaa elämässään, Saksassa kun ei moista perinnettä löydy. Sitten saapui hartaasti odotettu palmusunnuntai ja oli virpomisen aika.

Tätä lorua siis harjoiteltiin kovasti:

Virvon varvon tuoreex terveex,

tulevax vuodex,

vitsa sulle,

palkka mulle.

Sofian mielestä pitäisi kuitenkin sanoa, että vitsa sulle, rahat mulle!  :D

Kids have been counting days for the Palm Sunday and lots of the preparation has been done. Kids have been busy decorating pussy willow twigs and planting rye grass in pots ( Finnish tradition to symbolize the rebirth of life after winter and the coming of spring.)  The kids just loves it. Here's a  little history of Finnish Easter celebration for the Palm Sunday if you weren't aware of it yet.
Children of Lutheran families have a custom of dressing up like witches when evil spirits and witches (called trulli in Finnish) were believed to roam around, doing all kinds of mischief. Large bonfires were burnt to dispel them, and this custom is still practised today (this mostly in western Finland though.) Easter witch is a popular character in the Finnish tradition. It was believed that witches were flying around on brooms, hurting cattle and doing other mischief. Today, they are most often represented as scarf-clad women riding a broom, accompanied by a black cat and a copper coffee pot.

On Palm Sunday children around Finland dress up as little witches and equip themselves with willow branches decorated with colourful feathers and crepe paper. The little witches tour the neighbourhood, knock on doors and recite an old poem that promises health and youthfulness for the coming year and asks for a reward. Whoever opens the door gets one of the decorated willow branches as a gift and the reward is usually a chocolate egg or other seasonal sweets.

Sofia READS

Eilen 4.4.2012 oli iltasadun aika. Tällä kertaa iltasadun lukikin äidin sijaan Sofia!  Oliverin kanssa köllittiin sängyllä kun Sofia nappasi "Pipsa Possu kuralätäköt" -kirjan, otti pienen jakkaran sängyn viereen, istuutui siihen, avasi kirjan ja luki sen meille alusta loppuun. Oli siinä äidillä ja Oliverilla ihmettelemistä! Lopuksi seurasi isojen aploodien ja halien aika. Mun vauva on oppinu lukemaan! Voi sitä onnistumisen riemua joka säihkyi Sofian silmistä kun hän luki ja ymmärsi kirjan sisällön.

Last night when it was time to go to bed, we were lounging in Oliver's bed when Sofia pulled a chair next to us, opened a "Pipsa Possu" in English "Peppa Pig"- book and read it to us. This time the night story was read by Sofia instead of Mum. The book ending was followed with applause and hugs. My little baby has learned to read!

Oliver and Sofia loves our family photo album- books. I used to read them for the kids. Now Sofia can read them for Oliver. In other words, tomorrow I can write:

Sofia Read read Read's book which Read read to the little Reads when they couldn't yet read :D

Swimming Queen!

Sofian viimeisessä kevään uimakerhossa (jatkokurssi 2) sai olla vanhemmat mukana :) Sofia sai UPEAN todistuksen, pisteet riittivät Suomen uimaopetus- ja hengenpelastuslaitoksen Harrastemerkkiin. 

Opettaja kertoi Sofian olevan todella taitava uimari ja ehdottikin Sofian jatkavan "vesi-ralli"- ryhmässä joka on suunnattu 7-14 vuotiaille koululaisille syvässä altaassa. 

Alhaalla "kokeen" tulokset  joilla harrastemerkin todistuksen sai.

I was able to attend the final class of Sofia's swimming class (last one in this level.) Sofia got an excellent certificate and the teacher said Sofia is very talented and strong swimmer and can now attend the more advanced group where the kids are aged between 7-14 years. The following test result gave Sofia  a new certification from The Finnish Association for Swimming Instruction and Life Saving.

Sofian esiintyi Keravan balettiopiston kevätnäytöksessä ja tanssin nimi oli "kiinalainen tanssi".

Koko 385 paikkanen Keravan Keudasali oli loppuunmyyty ja innokas pikku tanssija pääsi vihdoinkin tanssimaan yleisön eteen.

Sofia's ballet group had an annual spring dance show. Sofia's dance was named "Chinese dance" and it was way cute. The dancing hall had 385 seats and it was sold out.

Pulkkamäessä

Pulkkamäessä hiihtolomalla. Kevät aurinko paistoi niin, että silmiä siristi. Kevät on jo ovella!

Uusi hamsteri!

Äiti sai syntymäpäivälahjaksi semmoisen yllätyksen ettei toista. Täysin yllätyksenä Tristan marssi makuuhuoneeseen häkki käsivarsissaan ja sieltä kurkisti pienen pieni kääpiöhamsterin poikanen. Lapset sekosivat täysin, etenkin Sofia. Sofia kiljui onnesta ja hyppi sängyllä ja huusi: 

"marsu, marsu, me saatiin marsu! Jeeee" 

"kulta, se on hamsteri..."

"hamsteri, hamsteri, me saatiin hamsteri!"

Sitten mietittiin nimiä. Sofia sitten tokaisi heti, että:

"Se on Aati....eiku sittenkin Pipa!" 

ja se oli siinä, päätös nimestä syntyi heti, mielestämme Pipa kun on oikein mainio nimi. Edellinen hamsterimme oli nimeltään Papi joten nimensä puolestakin hyvä nimi kakkos hamsterillemme.  Sitten Sofia tokaisi, että

 "Äiti, tätä marsua minä en sitten kuolleta!"  :D

(hmmm, edelliselle hamsterille kävi "vähän" köpelösti kun Sofia leikki sen kanssa...ei siitä sen enempää)  :/

Tämmöinen pieni palleroinen meille tuli:

Pipa, venäläinen kääpiöhamsteri, syntynyt 8.1.2012

New boyfriend!

Sofia tuli eskarista ja innolla heti eteisessä ilmoitti, että:

"Äiti, mul on uusi poikaystävä!

"Jaahas"

"Oikeeesti!!! Sen nimi on Eetu ja se on ihana! Me leikittiin koko päivä päiväkodissa yhessä."  

ja sitten Sofia huokaisi syvään ja haaveili itsensä seitsemänteen taivaaseen...

Sofia came home from the preschool and announced loudly:

"Mom, I've a new boyfriend"

"OK..."

"Yes, really!! He's name is Eetu and he is sooo nice. We played all day together in preschool today. He is just sooo nice" 

and she was dreaming herself into seventh heaven......

Sofia- biologian opettaja :)

"Äiti, tiesix sä et ihmisen sisällä on semmosia pieniä ihmisiä? Ne taistelee siellä toisiaan vastaan."

äitiä hiukan hymyillyttää.

"Älä naura äiti, IHAN totta, ne on semmosia soluja! oikeesti!!"

Ei taida meirän neropatista biologian opettajaa tulla   :D

Karate kid Sofia!

Sofia went to her first karate lesson and she absolutely loved it.

Skills were practiced @ daycare where Sofia kicked some guys ass followed by 6 minutes in the naughty corner...

ISO ja painava isomummi

Isomummi tuli yökylään. Isomummi nukkuu yleensä Sofian kerrossängyn alimmaisella  sängyllä. Nyt Sofia pohti, että olisko sittenkin pitänyt isomummille tarjota nukkumapaikkaa  yläsängyltä.

"Isomummi, paljonx sä painat?" 

"no tuota... 55kg"

Isomummi (great-Grandmother) came for overnight stay. Usually Isomummi sleeps on the lower bed in Sofia's bunk bed. This time Sofia was thinking if she should sleep on the upper or the lower bed. 

"Isomummi, how much do you weight?"   

"ohh, well, 55kg (120 pounds)"

 Gee! Well then it's better that you'll sleep on the lower bed than otherwise the whole bed will collapse!
